The Spring 2021 edition of the Early Intervention Clearinghouse newsletter is available on our website in English and Spanish. Our main story looks at the effects of lead poisoning on young children and details how Illinois children with lead exposure are now able to access early intervention services, with or without signs of delay. We also have a story on how addressing lead poisoning in young children has prompted a paradigm shift in early intervention. There’s also a list of eBooks on family fun that can be accessed through the clearinghouse library. This newsletter also includes our latest tip sheet, Everyday Early Intervention: Outdoor Fun (Spanish), which includes lots of suggestions on how outdoor play can help families develop their child’s fine motor skills, gross motor skills, social-emotional skills, and language development. We also provide an update on the Bureau of Early Intervention’s plans to ensure the safety of families while also ensuring access to early intervention services in the state as well as the latest on the State Systemic Improvement Plan (SSIP). You can find all previous issues of the Early Intervention Clearinghouse newsletter on our website in English and Spanish.
Keeping Up to Date About COVID-19 Impacts
As the COVID-19 pandemic is easing and more people are becoming vaccinated, things are still changing quickly. To this end, the Governor’s Office of Early Childhood Development has created a website for families. The website includes current updates in early intervention.Specifically, you may be interested in reading the frequently asked questions (FAQs) for families about COVID-19, in-person visits, live video visits, and early intervention. The FAQ includes information about evaluations and eligibility, in-person visits, live video visits and phone consultations, available technology, and transition.
